Programme Director's Welcome

Dear Class of 2025/26,

I am very excited about the talented and diverse group of students who will join us in September 2025. We know you will enjoy studying at the beautiful and iconic University of Edinburgh.

In today’s fast-changing and unpredictable world, entrepreneurship and innovation are more important than ever. These skills help us tackle some of the most pressing challenges in business and society. There’s a growing need for people who understand how to harness both internal strengths and external opportunities to drive change and create new value. That’s why public, private, and third-sector organisations are actively seeking individuals who can translate theoretical understanding into practical application.

My colleagues and I have been working enthusiastically to offer a programme that combines theoretical perspectives on complex innovation and business problems with real-world situations to help you develop both practical skills and long-range critical thinking abilities.

Your classes will draw on cutting-edge academic debates on innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as insights from practitioners to ensure you develop the skills and insights that will help you in whatever your next steps are.

You will gain core skills in understanding venture creation and their financial performance, as well as managing innovation in small start-ups or large, established multinationals. You will also have the exciting opportunity to work as consultants to solve real problems facing real companies as they deal with a rapidly changing market and workplace. Together with the compulsory courses, you will also have a range of high-quality option courses, such as Digital Business, Family Business Management, or Design Thinking, to select from according to your interests and career aspirations. During this year, you will have the opportunity to engage with a dynamic innovation ecosystem through different events, guest lectures and advisory panels, projects, and field visits.

I look forward to seeing you in September! If you have any questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
